Servers, platforms and databases
Web design isn’t only concerned with what happens in the browser—the “front-end”—but what the server does too: the “back-end”. Traditionally, the two ends have been separated, with front-end developers passing templates to back-end developers to implement. But with the rise of Ajax—updating parts of the page without a full refresh—the distinction becomes a barrier to effective design.
We cover both ends
Although it’s still common in the industry, we think the practice of specialising in either front- or back-end development is no longer helpful. Our technical people have expertise in both—which means great ideas won’t get mangled by poor implementation.
We can build it
We’ll set up the technical architecture for you, implementing our designs to create a real, live website. We don’t normally host client sites, but we’ll advise you on hosting providers, and help get everything up and runnning—liaising with your suppliers or IT department if necessary.
Open source software
We’re not dogmatic about software choices—we’ll research what’s available and select the most appropriate for your needs. Generally, we use open source software, because it’s powerful, flexible, and free from vendor lock-in.
